Mercedes Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series 1:18 Minichamps

The car:
The SL 65 AMG Black Series was the third of the Black Series cars after SLK 55 AMG in 2006 and CLK 63 AMG in 2007. It was lunched in Monterey in 2008 with only 350 cars made and a serious price tag.
It had a massive weight reduction of 250 kg over the standard SL 65 by replacing the folding metal roof with a fixed carbon fiber one and a lot of other parts had been replaced with carbon fiber items.
The engine was basically the same 6.0 litters V12 found in the normal 65’s but it had bigger turbos, a new redesigned exhaust and a few ECU moods which made the engine  produce 670 hp and 1000 Nm of torque between 2200-4200 rpm. The torque was limited to 1000 Nm because the differential and the gearbox couldn’t have coped with the massive torque produced by the twin turbo V12.
Despite the torque limitation it was capable of 0-100 km/h in 3.8 s and a limited
The Model:
The SL 65 AMG Black Series was made in 1:18 scale by Minichamps and MotorMax in various colors.
Since we are talking about Black Series I’ve got a black one from Minichamps.
In the exterior department in my opinion Minichamps hasn’t done a very god job, solid grilles, non-functional rear spoiler, no carbon fiber pattern diffuser and front splitter, no side windows and the list can go on.
In addition of all that mine has an issue with the paint on the bonnet but other than that paint is fine.

The wheels are the best part of the exterior of the car, i like how the wheels stand out also the brake discs and calipers look ok.

Being a modern car we can’t see much in the engine bay beside a big plastic cover. I like that they tried to make a carbon fiber pattern and the writing on the engine cover.

Trunk is done ok, I like very much that they used carpet material.

Interior looks very good, I like how the carbon fiber pattern on the doors and central console, I also like the bucket seats and that they carpeted it.

Over all it’s a nice car that I always wanted to have in my collection, but if you want one to only stay on the shelf you are better off with a Mondo Motors, almost the same exterior quality and a much better price.

                                          Score: 8/10
